AKRON

The Akron was a blimp like flying airship that could hold six warplanes. She was en route from New Jersey to New England. The US Navy dirigible Akron crashed into the Atlantic in April of 1933. Only 4 of her 76 crew were rescued. The Navy did recover some debris from the lightweight airship but the bulk of the craft is still sitting on the bottom.

Today the Akron can be found in 110 feet of water and holds an abundance of marine life including some nice size blackfish. Great fishing wreck.
