CAYRU
The 5,152 ton freighter Cayru was built in 1919 at Hog Island. On
March 8, 1942 a torpedo hit the Cayru, but it failed to explode.
Unfortunately, before the Caru's captain could take any evasive
action a second torpedo hit its mark. The explosion sent the
freighter to the bottom within minutes. A total of 15 crew members
went down with their ship. 32 had made it into life boats and were
rescued a few days latter.
