MALDEN
The Freighter Malden was owned by New England Fuel and
Transportation Company and displaced 3,098tons.
On September 18, 1921the Malden collided with the Jouaney while
sailing in a dense fog off Montauk point. According to the New York
Times "The Malden was so badly damaged that water began to pour into
the forward hold" "The Malden was ten miles off the Point at
the time of the collision and the captain decided that his ship was
in danger of sinking, the crew with the exception of himself and two
deck hands were taken aboard the Jouaney." The Coast Guard latter
rescued the remaining crew before the Malden slipped beneath the
waves.
