Note: The exact location of this wreck is presently unknown.
Although a few divers claim to know the wrecks location, it remains
a well kept secret.
CONDITIONS:
The three masted German packet New Era ran aground during a storm on
the evening of November 13,1854. Of the 415 passengers who boarded
the New Era in Bremen, Germany, 43 had already died from cholera.
Frustrated rescuers on the beach could only get close enough to the
ship to hear the anguished cries for help. Finally, the next morning
lifesavers were able to reach the wreck. They untied a young boy who
had been lashed to her mast. Around him hung arms and legs lashed
fast from which the bodies had been torn away. Only 132 survived the
calamity and 240 died from exposure and drowning.
