PAULINE MARIE
The Pauline Marie was built by Sturgeon Bay Ship Building in 1943.
She was an AK class freighter, 165feet long and 32 feet wide.
In 1985, the Pauline Marie was donated by Sea Coast Products to the
New Jersey Fish, Game and Wildlife artificial reef program. The
freighter was towed offshore, and on March 29, 1985, three charges
were set in the vessel's hull, exploding and opening up several two
foot holes below the water line. The Pauline Marie was sent downward
to begin her new life as a fish haven.
Today, the Pauline Marie sits in 90 feet of water. She is a prime
example of the benefits that marine life can gain from a three
dimensional structure.
