SHANGRALA
The Shangrala is a small unidentified wood wreck which sits in 108
feet of water 7 miles out of Moriches Inlet. The wreck is mostly
buried with nothing recognizable except wooden ribs. The highest
relief is found on the East end of the wreck where the ribs stick up
a good five feet. I visited this wreck for the first time in June of
1996. We found excellent visibility and an abundant supply of
lobsters. I did not see any rigging, masts or any other machinery
that would help to determine what type of vessel she was. My guess
would be an old schooner or most likely a schooner barge.
