The
Pipe Barge is a wreck of a push barge located just inshore of the Atlantic Beach
Fish Haven. The Pipe Barge, as the name implies, had been transporting pipe when
she sunk. The actual history and cause of her sinking is unknown, but that
doesn't change the fact that she has produced many lobsters over the years,
especially on night dives.

The
Pipe Barge sits in 60 feet of water and remains mostly intact. She sits upright
on a sand bottom and her bow section can be entered through an opening on her
starboard side. Lobsters inhabit many of the pipes and holes in and around the
wreck, but I always make a point of looking in a large pipe located in the sand
off her port side. This is a favorite home for larger lobsters. This wreck is
also excellent for spear
fishing. Its relative shallow depth and usually clear visibility are perfect
for those looking for a
fish dinner.
