Long Island Divers

Hi Dan,
22 years ago, when
I was first certified, I was instantly hooked. I went out on the
wrecks every weekend, but even that was not enough. I found myself
itching to dive as often as I could, and unable to wait for the
weekend, I began searching out new beach dive sites several days a
week. With my copy of
Shore Diver in hand, I set out to dive every
site in the book. That same summer, though I'm sure you won't
remember it, you spoke at one of the first Broadway Divers club
meetings at Darryl's shop in Hewlett. It was there that I met you
for the first time, was introduced to you by Darryl, and you
signed my copy of the book. While I never managed to dive every
site in the book, I did get to many, most of which I never would
have even known about if it had not been for that book. My copy is
worn and creased, and the autograph is smudged and spotted with
salt water from sitting on or under my wet gear, but it is still
something I cherish, one of the most well used and reliable pieces
of dive gear I have ever owned. It has paid for itself in
adventure and enjoyment a thousand times over. Though I rarely
dive the beaches much anymore, I still pull it out occasionally to
answer questions about dive sites and look up the relevant details
that would otherwise be long forgotten.
For so many years,
Shore Diver has been the quintessential guide to Long Island beach
diving. The addition of web based information for so many dive
sites will no doubt be an immensely valuable resource for all
local divers. LIDA will be both pleased and proud to do whatever
we can to help promote this information.
On behalf of LIDA
and the whole diving community, let me thank you very much for
your continued efforts and contributions to local diving. Your
dedication has been steadfast and the impact has been
immeasurable.
Sincerely,
Adam Altman
