BLACK BANKS

NOTE:
This
location is not accessible by car The only way to dive
this site is by boat.
CONDITIONS:
Black Banks is located on
the north side of Reynolds Channel just east of the
Wantagh Pkwy, Bridge. Although
only accessible by boat this is one of the best
inshore dives in the area. When
timed correctly so that divers are in the water at high slack it's
not uncommon to have over 20' visibility. There are several small
wrecks, which are attached
by a steel cable, for easy navigation. This is a great spot
for
spear fishing. Schools of large blackfish can be found not only
along the steep clay walls but
also around each wreck. Due to a very strong current, divers
should note that diving here should only be done during slack water.
Of course, high slack, which is usually about two hours after Jones
Inlet provides the best chance of enhanced visibility.
