Hempstead
Harbor Park
is one of the Nassau County Parks recently opened
to
scuba divers. Divers will need a leisure pass and a
Nassau County Diving Permit,
available from the Eisenhower Park Administration Building to
access
this site.
According to
Janice Raber, this site offers ample parking with bathrooms and a
short walk to an easy water entry. It's a great place for open
water training.
According to Darryl Steinhauser, the best diving is
found on the north end of the park. Maximum depth is about 20 feet
and the bottom composition is a mix of small rocks, sand and in
some areas mud. Divers should note that the Pier is used
frequently by fisherman. If diving under or near the pier, be very
careful
of encounters with lost monofilament line and
fishing hooks.
