CONDITIONS:
Metal Detecting
This little
town beach, located on Hog Island Channel, is great for those
who use underwater metal detectors to hunt for coins and
jewelry. The beach is only
accessible during the off-season when the beach is closed to
swimmers. The beach starts
out very shallow but then drops off quickly to around 20 feet.
In season, swim
races with lanes are set up between the main pier and a
floating dock to the south. It is here that we have found a
variety of brass whistles, old
brass beach tags and
several gold rings. Please note that the bottom is a little
silty but for an experienced diver with a metal
detector the current usually
carries
away silt and makes target location possible. |

author recovered this gold ring and
assortment of brass beach tags. Note that each year the tags have a
different size and shape. Photo by Dan Berg
