ROCKY POINT LANDING

DIRECTIONS: (Rocky Point, Suffolk
County)
Take the Long
Island Expressway to Exit 63 North, Patchogue Road. Drive
north to
the end and make a right. Drive east to Hallock Landing Road and
make a left. Bear left onto Rocky Point Landing Road, which will
turn into
Hagerman Landing Road. Take this to the end. There is
no parking allowed, so
divers will have
to arrange to be dropped off or find another entrance point.
CONDITIONS:
Rocky Point Landing
has, as the name implies, plenty of rocks. According
to
local divers, the rocks that lie just offshore are a
great haven for lobsters. Divers
will find a clean
white sand bottom with an abundance of typical north shore
marine
life, like fluke, flounder, porgies, hermit crabs, spider crabs and
starfish. Spear fishermen can enjoy the occasional sighting of a
good size black fish, or
the plentiful
selection of bottom fish. This site is also good for underwater
photography.
