DIRECTIONS: (Riverside, Suffolk
County)
Take Sunrise
Highway to Exit 61 North, Moriches Riverhead Road. Stay on
Moriches
River Head Road to Lakeview and turn right. The lake will be on your
right side. Parking is available on Lakeview.
CONDITIONS:
According to
scuba instructor, Jim Cacace,
Wildwood Lake
has a bottom
composition of
mud and silt. The lake has a maximum depth of approximately 25 feet.
Jim reports that visibility can be better than 20 feet during winter
and
early spring, but during the summer months reduces dramatically due
to algae
growth. Jim also reports that divers can usually see
cray fish, small perch, and
trout. Divers
have also recovered a variety of bottles from the lake but nothing
that was very old.
Wildwood Lake is
a nice dive site for checking out equipment and fresh water
photography.
