BARATARIA
The 68 ft steel hulled tug boat Barataria was built in 1937 in El
Morro Tx. On September 21,1971 the Barataria was sold to the Sun
Marine Company. On November 25, 1971 the tug was en-route from Miami
Florida to New England. Storm seas caused the tug to founder off
Horton Point. The wreck known to local divers which sits in 135feet
of water, has never been positively identified. It could be the
Barataria or either of two other tugs which have also sunk in the
area. The other possible identities are the Thames or El Morro II.
