HALCYON
The Halcyon went down in a hurricane in 1695. The ship was trying to
get into Jones Inlet at the time. Some sources report that this
vessel was actually a pirate or privateer. They say she was carrying
the loot taken from three French vessels when she went down. This
treasure wreck has never been located although years ago a fishing boat
anchored in Jones Inlet pulled up its anchor and stuck in the mud on
one of its flutes was a gold coin.
