JOHN A DOWNS
On March 3, 1985 the113 foot tugboat John A Downs was towing three
barges. While maneuvering in heavy seas the Downs collided with one
of her own barges. The resulting massive hole was her doom. Her
captain and crew abandoned the tug onto one of the barges. The Downs
slipped beneath the waves and now sits in over 230 feet of water.
