The Sindia Shipwreck
New York and New Jersey's (Wreck Valley)
Historical and current New York and New Jersey Shipwreck Information and images for scuba
divers and fisherman.
The British barque Sindia was 392 feet long and displaced 4000 tons.
The Sindia ran aground on December 15, 1901. Almost immediately
salvagers started to remove her cargo of fine silks, screens, and
matting. The Sindia also carried 3,315 crate of china and porcelain.
According to experts only 1000 of these crate were salvaged. The
modern day value of this china makes the Sindia a true
wreck. The only problem is that the wreck is now completely buried
beneath the beach off 17th Street in Ocean City.
