THAMES
The iron hulled tugboat Thames was 55 feet long. In 1973 the Thames
was towing a barge off Horton Point. The tug started to leak and
although her crew tried desperately to save the ship all efforts
were in vane. Her crew jumped onto the barge in tow and anchored
themselves while waiting for the Coast Guard. They then watch as the
Thames slipped beneath the sea.
Today the wreck of the Thames sits in 130 feet of water. She was
wire dragged clear to a depth of 75 feet so as not to cause a hazard
to navigation.
